Progress Energy Appreciation and Scholarship Reception Held April 29

A reception in honor of Progress Energy and Progress Energy Scholarship recipients was held in the recently renovated mechanical and aerospace engineering student lounge in Broughton Hall at North Carolina State University April 29. NC State Engineering Foundation Inc. and the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering organized the event.

Dr. Nino A. Masnari, dean of the College of Engineering, thanked Progress Energy for their long history of financial support of the College. Dr. Tony Mitchell, assistant dean of engineering student services, and Dr. Mohammad Noori, professor and head of mechanical engineering, also expressed their thanks. Noori presented Mr. Buddy Cline, Progress Energy vice president of Distribution Engineering and Operations, with a plaque to commemorate the event. Cline made brief remarks followed by Dr. Bill Roberts, Endowed Progress Energy Faculty Fellow, and Beth Baldwin, a mechanical engineering graduate student. Baldwin, on behalf of mechanical and aerospace engineering students, thanked Progress Energy for sponsoring the renovation of the student lounge, which will be formally dedicated in the fall.

Scholarship recipients and other students had the opportunity to talk with representatives of Progress Energy, including Cline; Susan Sliwa, human resources recruiter; Merrilee Jacobson, contributions specialist; Margaret Perry, manager of corporate employment; and William Springer, supervisor of distribution planning.
