The Graduate Program in Operations Research at North Carolina State University was recently ranked 7th in the nation in faculty scholarly productivity for 2007. The index, published Nov. 16 in The Chronicle of Higher Education, compiled statistics on book and journal publications, research grants, and honors and awards to rate 375 American universities with PhD programs.
The Operations Research Program is a multi-disciplinary program that draws students and faculty from several different colleges at NC State, including the College of Engineering. Operations Research (OR) is the use of scientific methodology in studying systems whose design or operation requires human decision-making.
The index found that of the 48 OR faculty members, 81 percent had a journal publication, with about 6.79 journal publications per faculty member. Seventeen percent of faculty received a new grant, with an average grant amount of $70,189.
