Engineering Open House Set for April 20
A poster announcing the event is available here.
The College of Engineering at NC State University is holding its annual Open
House Saturday, April 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All of our Engineering
departments will be open for tours and demonstrations, and we’ll even
have music and refreshments. Specific events are listed below.
The public is invited to attend, and prospective students and their parents
are particularly encouraged to come and learn more about Engineering at NC State.
Registration starts at the Burlington Labs North Portico. Here you will find
a check-in desk, departmental information, directions to labs and tours, and
information on financial aid, housing, University Scholars, the Study Abroad
program, and Cooperative Education.
Hear all about “Engineering — The Freshman Year” in 218 Withers
Hall and “The College of Engineering Eos Computer Network” in 216
Poe Hall at sessions held throughout the day.
Music will be provided by the “Grains of Time,” the “Woodwind
Quintet,” the “Jazz Combo,” and the “Ladies in Red.”
Take a look at some of the events we have planned for you:
- Chemical students will give lab demonstrations in distillation, mixing
heat exchange, and fermentation in 115 Riddick Labs and will have a question/answer
session.
- Civil Engineering will kick off events with a poster show from their Environmental
Engineering Symposium in the Mann Hall lobby and information about Civil Engineering,
Construction Engineering and Management, and Environmental Engineering. The
Transportation Engineering group will have available computerized traffic
flow simulations. Civil engineering students will be on hand tell you how
they construct and race a concrete canoe, and construct and testing a steel
bridge.
- Computer Science students will give Eos computer lab demonstrations in
126 Withers.
- Electrical and Computer Engineering offers information sessions in 214
Daniels and in 416 Daniels you can tour the Center for Robotics & Intelligent
Machines (have you seen their famous pipe crawling robot or their latest Evbots
yet? No? You will! In the meantime, check it out: www.engr.ncsu.edu/news/news_articles/robots.spotlight.html
.)
- Industrial Engineering will have a Learning Factory tour starting in the
Park Shops Lobby.
- Materials Science and Engineering tours will start in the courtyard in
front of Riddick Labs. They will have demonstrations and information sessions
throughout their department.
- Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in 3211 Broughton Hall will offer
tours of labs in Solid Mechanics (1216 Broughton), Dynamics & Control
labs (1219 Broughton), and Fluid Mechanics & Thermodynamics labs (1221
Broughton). You’ll hear about their Senior Design projects (1331 Broughton).
And let’s not forget to mention the Wolfpack Motor Sports demonstrations
(2106 Broughton). Aerospace Engineering students will show their Senior Design
aircraft, projects in the Propulsion Lab, experiments from their Experimental
Aero courses, and wind tunnel models and experiments in the Subsonic Wind
Tunnel.
- Nuclear Engineering will have tours of facilities plus a new display and
information booth in the Burlington Labs lobby. Security regulations will
not allow tours of the nuclear reactor this year, but you can learn all about
Nuclear Engineering at NC State.
- Biological Engineering will give demonstrations in 322 Daniels Hall, and
Textile Engineering will have exhibits set up at Burlington Labs.
