NC State Nuclear Engineering Program Ranked Fourth in Nation by US News & World Report

The bachelor of science degree program in nuclear engineering at North Carolina State University has been ranked fourth in the nation based on a US News & World Report survey, behind the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor and the University of Wisconsin–Madison.  Pennsylvania State University–University Park tied with NC State for fourth place.  Undergraduate programs are compared with those of similar universities with doctoral programs.

NC State was among the first universities in the nation to offer nuclear engineering degrees, receiving authorization to do so in 1951.  In 1953 the first research reactor not located at a government laboratory went critical (was capable of sustaining a constant chain reaction) on the NC State campus.
