Dr. Roger Narayan, associate professor in the NC State-UNC Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering, has received the Faculty Research Award from the NC State Chapter of Sigma Xi.
The award honors early-career faculty who have shown excellence in their research specialization. Nominees must be in their first five years of their first tenure-track position to be eligible for the award.
Narayan is also an associate faculty member of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. His primary research areas include biomaterials, nanometer systems, biomedical sensors and optical materials and devices.
Narayan is the principal investigator on research grants from the National Institute of Health, the National Science Foundation and the Office of Naval Research. He was recently named Editor-in-Chief of “Materials Science and Engineering C.”
Founded in 1886, Sigma Xi is a scientific research society with more than 500 chapters worldwide. The society aims to promote original research and its role in human progress.
The Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering is an academic department co-located at NC State University and UNC-Chapel Hill. It was established in 2003, linking the College of Engineering at NC State to the School of Medicine at UNC-Chapel Hill.
