In 2001 Dr. Donald W. Brenner, professor of materials science and engineering at North Carolina State University, was part of a project team who published a paper in Nanotechnology titled, “Predicted Structure and Electronic Properties of Individual Carbon Nanocones and Nanostructures Assembled From Nanocones.” The paper contained schematics of nanocone structures that caught the attention of the publisher of Nanotechnology, The Institute of Physics Publishing (IOP Publishing). The publisher sought permission to turn one of the figures into a poster for their headquarters. Frédérique Swist, senior graphic designer at IOP Publishing, designed the poster of a carbon nanocone assembly that now hangs in the lobby of the Institute of Physics in London. — mcblief — |
