The College of Engineering at North Carolina State University announced the Faculty Senior Scholarship Award for 2009-10 at the annual fall faculty meeting held September 16. Dr. Louis A. Martin-Vega, dean of the College of Engineering, presented the award to chemical and biomolecular engineering major Stephen W. Morton.
Morton is an active University Scholar with a long-term goal of obtaining both an M.D. in neuroscience and a Ph.D. in a biomedical or biomolecular engineering-related field with the ultimate goal of pursuing neurological research.
An NC State University Undergraduate Research Award winner, Morton has achieved National Dean’s List and National Society for Collegiate Scholars membership. He has served as a teaching assistant to Dr. James Knopp in biochemistry; participated in the Research Experience for Undergraduates at Duke University’s Pratt School of Engineering studying tissue and biomedical engineering; held an internship with Duke Energy in environmental health services; and currently serves as secretary of the Biotechnology Club. He has also traveled to Lyon, France, with the Study Abroad Program this past summer.
