New Textbook Introduces Students to Nuclear Engineering

The American Nuclear Society (ANS) has published a new textbook written by Dr. Robert Mayo, associate professor of nuclear engineering. The textbook, Introduction to Nuclear Concepts for Engineers, is expected to become the primary text for sophomore engineering students in most nuclear engineering departments in the United States.

The textbook, which covers nuclear concepts, vocabulary and models, helps students develop problem-solving skills and prepares students for work in reactor theory and engineering. Mayo includes chapters on basic principles, nuclear reactions, neutron interactions, decay of radionuclides, fission and fusion.

ANS promotes the book as both a student text and a reference for practicing nuclear engineers and others in engineering and science disciplines. More information about the textbook is available through the society's web site at www.ans.org.
