Distance Education Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering Master’s Degrees Established at NC State University

On August 2, 2002, the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina system approved the establishment of two individual-access distance learning master’s degrees: the master of science in mechanical engineering and master of science in aerospace engineering. The degree programs are housed in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at NC State University. The implementation date for the programs is August 2002.

These non-thesis, 30-credit-hour degree programs offer graduate-level courses on CD-ROM and online on the Web through the Engineering Online program in the College of Engineering.

Interest in distance education graduate courses is growing dramatically in the state of North Carolina, as evidenced by survey data and enrollments in existing courses. Designed for individuals already in the work force who wish to improve their credentials, the new master’s degrees provide an opportunity for workers to complete their studies while maintaining employment.
