A dedication ceremony of the Progress Energy-sponsored student lounge in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at North Carolina State University was held October 15. At the ceremony, Progress Energy Scholars were recognized. The NC State Engineering Foundation Inc. and the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering organized the event.
Dr. Mohammad Noori welcomed Scotty Hinnant, senior vice president and chief nuclear officer for Progress Energy, and other Progress Energy attendees, and thanked Progress Energy for sponsoring the renovation of the student lounge. Dr. Nino A. Masnari, dean of the College of Engineering, thanked Progress Energy for their contributions over the years and invited Hinnant to the podium to dedicate the student lounge with its new name, “The Progress Energy Student Team Design Classroom/Project Meeting Room.” Hinnant made brief remarks and unveiled a plaque displaying the new name. Dr. Bill Roberts, Endowed Progress Energy Faculty Fellow, and student organization representatives also spoke.
During the reception that followed the ceremony, scholarship recipients and other students had the opportunity to talk with representatives of Progress Energy, including Hinnant; Bill Springer, manager of distribution planning; Merrilee Jacobson, contributions specialist; and Susan Sliwa and Mary Storer, recruiting specialists.
