Kingon Appointed Director of Technology Commercialization Programs

Dr. Angus I. Kingon, professor of materials science and engineering at North Carolina State University, has been appointed executive director of Technology Commercialization Programs at NC State. The appointment is effective March 1, 2002, and is a half-time faculty position in the Department of Business Management, College of Management. Kingon will continue to serve his remaining half-time appointment in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering.

In addition to his research in technology commercialization and high tech entrepreneurship, Kingon’s research interests include growth and characterization of oxide thin films; ferroelectric, electrooptic and semiconductor materials; ceramic processing; electronic materials; and nanoparticle synthesis. He initiated the Technology, Education and Commercialization program in 1995, with a grant from the National Science Foundation. This program brings together graduate students in science, engineering and management to create technology-based new ventures.

Kingon received his bachelor’s degree from the University of the Witwaterstrand, South Africa, in 1974, his master’s degree in physical chemistry from the University of South Africa in 1977 and his doctorate in physical chemistry from the University of South Africa in 1981.
