Two administrators are taking new positions in the College.
Dr. Richard Keltie has been named interim associate dean for research and graduate programs. He replaces Dr. John Strenkowski, who had held the position since November 2006.
As interim associate dean, Keltie will lead the College’s efforts to increase research awards and continue to grow graduate enrollment both on campus and through distance education. He was previously associate dean for administration and academic planning and will continue in those roles in his new position. He was associate dean for academic affairs from 2003 to 2008.
Keltie is a former recipient of the NC State Outstanding Teacher Award and was the director of the Center for Sound Vibration in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from 1986 to1990. He received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from NC State in 1978.
Strenkowski is returning to his position as a professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and will also serve as the interim director of the North Carolina Aerospace Initiative (NCAI), a university-wide, multidisciplinary initiative whose mission is to establish North Carolina as a leader in the aerospace industry by educating and enabling a diverse and highly skilled workforce, developing a rich technology and research infrastructure and promoting strong industry awareness and growth.
Strenkowski was previously assistant dean for research in the College, holding that position from 2000 to 2006. From 1995 to 1997, he served as associate department head of mechanical and aerospace engineering. For outstanding achievements in education and research, he was accorded the 1989 SAE Ralph R. Teetor Award and the 1998 ASME Blackall Machine Gage and Tool Award. He received his Ph.D. in aerospace engineering from the University of Virginia in 1977 and joined the NC State faculty in 1978.
