NC HealthyBuilt Homes wins Triangle Business Journal award

NC HealthyBuilt Homes, a collaborative program between the North Carolina Solar Center, the State Energy Office and local building professional organizations, has won the Triangle Business Journal Green Award for Non-Profit Action Program of the Year. The award was presented on October 23.

The program is a statewide effort to promote environmentally sustainable building practices in the state's residential construction market and urge builders to create homes that reduce energy and water usage. The program targets small to medium-sized builders and offers them services including training, technical assistance, marketing assistance, design reviews, workshops, outreach to consumers and field consultation services.

Since the program was developed in 2003, 168 builders have enrolled, 494 homes have been registered and 186 homes have been certified.

The North Carolina Solar Center is a clearinghouse for solar and other renewable energy programs, information, research, technical assistance and training for residents of North Carolina and beyond. The center is part of the College of Engineering at NC State.
