Formal groundbreaking for Engineering Building II took place October 24 at 3:00 p.m. on Centennial Campus at NC State University. NC State Chancellor Marye Anne Fox, Dean Nino A. Masnari of the College of Engineering and other dignitaries, including members of the North Carolina General Assembly, attended the ceremony. Alumnus Thomas McPherson, former president and CEO of Hatteras, was the keynote speaker. An NC State alumnus, McPherson received his bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering.
Engineering Building II, a $35 million facility, will house the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. It is the second engineering building funded by the University of North Carolina Education Bond Referendum and is part of the College of Engineering’s move to Centennial Campus. The facility is scheduled for completion in 2005.
The ceremony took place on the top level of the parking deck overlooking the construction site. After the ceremony, a reception was held on the first floor of the Red Hat building.
