Maunabo, Puerto Rico — On March 26, Governor Aníbal Acevedo Vilá submitted for consideration by the Senate the appointment of Carlos J. González-Miranda as Secretary of the Department of Transportation and Public Works and Executive Director of the Highways Authority.
Since November 2000 González-Miranda has served as Dean of the College of Engineering and Geomatic Sciences at Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico in San Juan. Prior to that appointment he served as Dean of the College of Business for one year. From 1995 to 1999 he served as assistant professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico in Mayaguez.
From 1988 to 1993 González was a research and teaching assistant in the Department of Industrial Engineering (now the Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering) at North Carolina State University. He received his master’s degree in integrated manufacturing systems engineering in 1990 and his PhD in industrial engineering in 1995, both from NC State. He earned his bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering, magna cum laude, from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez, in 1987.
González-Miranda, who is a licensed Professional Engineer, serves as an industrial engineering and management consultant for numerous corporations, including Millipore, Stryker, Cuttler-Hammer, Eli Lilly del Caribe, Allergan, Bristol-Myers and Merck.
