Two doctoral students earn Department of Defense Fellowships

Two NC State engineering doctoral students have been awarded 2007-2008 National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowships.

The winners are William Cox in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and William Lee in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering.

The Department of Defense has awarded approximately 3,000 NDSEG fellowships since the program's inception 20 years ago. The program's primary goal is to provide the United States with talented, doctorally-trained American men and women who will lead state-of-the-art research projects in disciplines of greatest benefit to national defense.

Cox is studying underwater optical communications. His academic advisor is Dr. John Muth, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering.

Lee is developing new modeling and experimental techniques related to the extreme behavior of high-strength aluminum alloys. His academic advisor is Dr. M.A. Zikry, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering.
