Distance Education Computer Science Master’s Degree Established at NC State University

On August 16, 1999, the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina system approved the establishment of a distance education master’s degree in computer science. The degree program, which has recently been fully funded, is housed in the Department of Computer Science at NC State University.

The non-thesis degree program offers courses on videotape and online on the Web through the Engineering Online (formerly VBEE) program in the College of Engineering.

Interest in distance education graduate courses is high in the state of North Carolina, as evidenced by survey data and enrollments in existing courses. Designed for individuals already in the work force who wish to improve their credentials, the new master’s degree provides an opportunity for workers to complete their studies while maintaining employment.
