The College of Engineering at North Carolina State University announced the Faculty Senior Scholarship Award for 2006-07 at the annual fall faculty meeting held September 7. Dr. Russell E. King, professor of industrial and systems engineering and chair of the College Scholarship Committee, presented the award to Mark A. Clapp.
Clapp is a dual-degree student majoring in textile engineering and biomedical engineering with a minor in Spanish. As a student he has traveled extensively, visiting England and Spain, taking a Study Abroad trip to Peru and volunteering for a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. After Hurricane Katrina, he raised money and traveled to the Gulf to help in the relief effort.
A Caldwell Fellow and a University Scholar, Clapp is the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships, including the Barnhardt Textile Scholarship, the Robert C. Byrd Scholarship and the Toby White Youth Scholarship. He is a member of the Order of Thirty and Three Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi. He was selected as the Leader of the Pack for the 2006 Homecoming game. An active student, Clapp has participated in 25 different organizations, including serving as treasurer of the Kappa Tau Beta Textile Leadership Fraternity, secretary of the Scholars’ Council, vice-president of Sigma Tau Sigma Textile Honor Fraternity and treasurer of the Textile Engineering Society.
