- from NC State University News Services

The Progress Energy Foundation will present a grant of $385,000 to North Carolina State University during a dedication ceremony for a lecture hall that was renovated using funds from the foundation's 2000 grant. Chancellor Marye Anne Fox will dedicate the renovated room as the Progress Energy Lecture Hall, and accept the grant, in a ceremony on Wednesday, May 1, at 3:30 p.m. in Burlington Nuclear Engineering Laboratories.

William Cavanaugh, chairman, president and CEO of Progress Energy - a longtime supporter of the nuclear engineering program at NC State - will present the check. Following the dedication of the lecture hall, William "Skip" Orser, group president for energy supply at Progress Energy, will deliver the inaugural lecture of the "Nuclear Engineering Executive Lecture" series. The title of the lecture is "Rediscovering Nuclear Power." A question-and-answer session will follow.

Chancellor Fox will be accompanied by Dr. Nino Masnari, dean of the College of Engineering; Dr. Paul Turinsky, professor and head of the Department of Nuclear Engineering; and other members of the engineering faculty and staff. In addition to Cavanaugh and Orser, Progress Energy attendees will include Fred Day, executive vice president for energy delivery; and NC State alumnus Buddy Cline, vice president of distribution engineering and operations.
