Boeing donation to support student activities, scholarships

The Boeing Company has donated $45,000 to the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University to support summer enrichment activities, an aerospace engineering design program and scholarships for engineering students.

Boeing, the world's largest aircraft manufacturer, has made numerous gifts to the College over the years in support of scholarships, summer programs and student organizations.

“We are grateful for Boeing's longstanding support of our programs,” said Dr. Louis A. Martin-Vega, dean of the College of Engineering. “Through its generous contributions, Boeing is helping us educate the next generation of outstanding NC State engineers.”

The gift will be allocated as follows:

•  $15,000 for the aerospace engineering summer camp, which introduces high school students to problem-solving techniques and career options in the field. The 2009 program will be named the Boeing Aerospace Engineering Camp.

•  $15,000 for the Minority Engineering Programs' summer transition program, which enhances the academic and social maturation of incoming minority engineering freshmen prior to the start of the regular academic year. The program includes academic workshops and visits from sponsoring companies.

•  $10,000 for merit scholarships to help the College attract the best students. The scholarships will support sophomores majoring in electrical and computer engineering, mechanical and aerospace engineering and civil, construction, and environmental engineering.

•  $5,000 for the aerospace engineering senior design program, in which students design, build and test their own aircraft.
