Abrams Appointed Director of Biomedical Engineering Graduate Programs

Dr. C. Frank Abrams Jr., professor of biological and agricultural engineering at North Carolina State University, has been appointed director of graduate programs for the new Department of Biomedical Engineering at NC State.  He has been at NC State since 1972 and was senior vice provost for academic affairs and chief of staff from 1994 to 2003.

His research interests include biomechanics, machine design and human factors engineering.  He has worked on methods for treatment of orthopedic injuries in animals and humans.  Abrams was a leader in the early development of study opportunities for students in the area of biomedical engineering at NC State.

He is a member of the American Society of Agricultural Engineering, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, the Institute of Biological Engineering, the Biomedical Engineering Society, the American Society for Engineering Education and the American Association for Higher Education.

Abrams received his bachelor’s degree in 1966, his master’s in 1969 and his doctorate in 1971, all in biological and agricultural engineering from North Carolina State University.
