C. Richard Vaughn of Mount Airy, N.C., a 1961 graduate of NC State’s College of Engineering, serves as chairman and CEO of John S. Clark Co. Inc. North Carolina Governor Michael F. Easley announced on Monday, March 31, his appointments of Steve F. Warren and C. Richard Vaughn to four-year terms on the North Carolina State University Board of Trustees. Effective July 1, Warren will begin his first four-year term; Vaughn will start a second four-year term.
Warren, a resident of Greensboro, N.C., is a 1968 graduate of NC States College of Textiles and is managing partner of Sheley Management Group. He is a former president of the Greige Fabrics Division of CMI Industries Inc. He was a volunteer for the Campaign for NC State Students, and serves on the board of trustees of the NC State Endowment Fund. His service to the university also includes terms on the Graduate School board of advisors, the Athletics Council, the Wolfpack Pride Campaign and the board of directors of the NC State Student Aid Association. He replaces W. Steven Edwards of Raleigh, whose term expires June 30.
Vaughn, of Mount Airy, N.C., is a 1961 graduate of NC State’s College of Engineering, and serves as chairman and CEO of John S. Clark Co. Inc., a general building contractor based in Mount Airy, with offices in Greensboro, Wilmington and Winston-Salem. Vaughn has served on numerous state boards of directors, including the N.C. Board of Transportation and the N.C. Ports Authority. A member of the NC State Board of Trustees in the 1980s, Vaughn’s community service includes the Mount Airy Board of Education, the Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce and the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History.
NC State Chancellor Marye Anne Fox, welcoming the new trustees, said, “The NC State community joins me in congratulating our new and returning members of the Board of Trustees. We look forward to working together to advance NC State as one of the nation’s finest higher education institutions.”
Warren and Vaughn join new and reappointed trustees named on March 21 by the University of North Carolina Board of Governors. Appointed to new terms were Robert B. Jordan III of Mount Gilead and Cassius S. Williams of New Bern. Reappointed were Ann B. Goodnight of Cary and Wendell H. Murphy of Rose Hill.
