MEDIA ALERT: NC State Engineer Served on NRC Committee Study of EPA’s “New Source Review”

  — Dr. Christopher is available to discuss Supreme Court case Environmental Defense v. Duke Energy Corp.

Dr. Christopher Frey served on the National Academies’ National Research Council (NRC) committee that studied the changes in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency policies concerning “New Source Review,” a key component to the Environmental Defense v. Duke Energy Corp court case currently before the Supreme Court.

Convened by Congress in 2004, the NRC committee included experts in environmental sciences, health, law and economics. The committee was charged with determining the possible effects of the policy changes that are part of the Clean Air Act that governs large, stationary sources of air pollution such as factories and power plants.

Recognized as a leader in pollution control, emissions sources and systems analysis, Frey was selected to serve on the committee from its inception. He is a professor of civil, construction and environmental engineering at North Carolina State University and current president of the Society of Risk Analysis. He received his Ph.D. in engineering and public policy from Carnegie Mellon University in 1991 and joined the NC State faculty in 1994.

A summary of the report is available at http://books.nap.edu/catalog/11701.html.

Frey is available to the media to discuss the Supreme Court case, the NRC committee’s findings and other pollution and emission control issues.
