Angelitha L. Daniel of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has been appointed assistant director of minority programs for the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University, effective June 15. Before coming to NC State she served as recruiter for the minority engineering program at the University of Pittsburgh for five years.

As assistant director of minority programs, Daniel will be responsible for assisting minority students in the College of Engineering as well as being an advocate for students and interacting with student organizations. She will also be directing the summer transition program in the College in 2004. The program, for which all incoming minority freshmen are eligible, guides students through the changes they will experience as they enter the university.

Daniel believes that her role as assistant director will help her make a difference in the academic lives of students. “It’s crucial to students to have support to get through a four- or five-year engineering program,” she said. “I was a participant in a similar program when I was an undergraduate, so I bring the perspective of both the student and the staff member to the position.”

Daniel received her bachelor of science degree in materials science and engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1998. She hopes to pursue a master’s degree in either engineering or university administration at NC State.
