On February 11, 2003, the Board of Governors of the University of North Carolina system approved the establishment of an individual-access distance learning master’s degree in chemical engineering. The degree program is housed in the Department of Chemical Engineering at NC State University. The implementation date for the program is March 1, 2003.
This non-thesis, 30-credit-hour degree program offers graduate-level courses on CD-ROM and online on the Web through the Engineering Online program in the College of Engineering.
Interest in distance education graduate courses is growing dramatically in the state of North Carolina, as evidenced by survey data and enrollments in existing courses. Designed for individuals already in the work force who wish to improve their credentials, the new master’s degree provides an opportunity for workers to complete their studies while maintaining employment.
