Clancy & Theys Endows Professorship in College of Engineering

Clancy & Theys Construction Company of Raleigh has pledged $1 million to the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University. The gift will be used to create the E.I. Clancy Distinguished Professorship in Construction Engineering Management in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering.

The professorship will be established using the $1 million gift from the company and matching funds of $500,000 to be provided by the Distinguished Professorship Endowment Trust Fund once the pledge is fulfilled, bringing the total value of the endowed professorship to $1.5 million.

NC State University Chancellor James Oblinger said of the gift, “Endowment remains an important area of need for NC State. This gift from Clancy and Theys will help us ensure a successful future for our great university. We appreciate their commitment to education and look forward to continuing this valuable partnership.”

Clancy & Theys was cofounded by E.I. Clancy, a 1938 civil engineering alumnus. The company was the general contractor for many building projects on the NC State campus, including the recently constructed Engineering Building II (EB II), which houses the departments of Computer Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering. Clancy & Theys’ work on the EB II project was honored with one of only two Merit Awards for Superior Professional Services given this year by the State Building Commission.

Dr. Nino A. Masnari, dean of the College of Engineering, said of the gift, “We are very grateful for the generosity and commitment Clancy and Theys has shown the College of Engineering and NC State. This gift will greatly enhance our efforts to attract and retain the highest quality faculty.”
