Dr. Mohamed A. Bourham, professor of nuclear engineering at North Carolina State University, has been named interim head of the Department of Nuclear Engineering effective July 1, 2006. He replaces Dr. Paul J. Turinsky, who has served as head of the department since 2000 and who previously had served as head from 1980 to 1988.
Bourham’s research interests include plasma-matter interactions with solids, liquids, energetic combustible materials, fabrics and microorganisms; electrothermal plasma launchers; and ablation/erosion behavior of solid surfaces in contact with plasmas in high heat loading conditions. He received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Ain Shams University in Egypt in 1976 and joined the NC State faculty in 1987.
