OPNET Technologies Supports Computer Science Programs at NC State University

OPNET Technologies Inc. has made a software donation valued at approximately $7.6 million to the Department of Computer Science at NC State University. The software gift includes licenses of IT Guru and Modeler products. Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., OPNET Technologies Inc. makes products for computer network management and has long been a strong supporter of NC State University

According to Dr. David J. Thuente, associate professor of computer science and assistant head of the department, OPNET software is being used successfully in undergraduate, graduate and distance education network projects courses. Thuente said, “I have used OPNET software for more than seven years to support networking courses and network research with students. OPNET and its university program have contributed significantly to our curriculum and to the understanding and development of protocols.”

Dr. Alan L. Tharp, head of the computer science department, said of the OPNET gift, “We are extremely appreciative of OPNET’s generosity and their ongoing support of NC State University and the Department of Computer Science. Strong and active partnerships between the university and members of the global business community are core to our mutual success.”
