NC State Receives NSF Grant to Support Transfer Students

North Carolina State University has received $400,000 from the National Science Foundation to support the Computer Science, Engineering, and Mathematics Scholarships (CSEMS) program. The grant, to be distributed over four years, will provide scholarships to transfer students in related fields of study in the colleges of Engineering and Physical and Mathematical Sciences. Annually, the grant will provide scholarships valued at more than $3,000 each for 29 students majoring in computer science, engineering mathematics and statistics.

“The CSEMS program is designed to help students reduce the time it takes to graduate by reducing the financial need to work while attending classes,” said Dr. Tony L. Mitchell, assistant dean of engineering and director of minority engineering programs. “This funding will also allow us to help under-represented populations in these areas since research shows that, nationally, a larger percentage of this group is in the target population of transfer students.”

Mitchell will serve as the principal investigator for the grant.
