Dwain and Gayle Lanier Scholarship Endowment Established

Dwain K. and Gayle S. Lanier of Raleigh have donated $25,000 to the College of Engineering at North Carolina State University. The Laniers’ gift will fund scholarships for engineering undergraduates, with preference given to graduates of North Carolina high schools. Awards will be for one academic year and may be renewable if the recipient maintains a 3.25 grade point average and satisfactory academic progress.

Both NC State alumni, Dwain graduated in 1979 with a B.A. in accounting and Gayle in 1982 with a B.S. in industrial engineering. Dwain is director of Fossil Fuels at Progress Energy, and Gayle is vice president of Global Corporate Operations at Nortel.

Gayle serves on the NC State University Board of Visitors, the NC State Engineering Foundation Board of Directors and the Computer Science Department Strategic Advisory Board. The Laniers are members of NC State’s Polk Society, a lifetime giving society. Their daughter Brittany is a student in chemical engineering at NC State.

Dean Nino A. Masnari said of the gift, “This generous commitment by the Laniers is an investment in tomorrow's engineers. The scholarship will allow some of the brightest young people to attend NC State and will strengthen the university's commitment to attracting top scholars.”

The scholarship will be administered by the NC State Engineering Foundation.
