College of Engineering to Receive HP Grant

North Carolina State University was selected to receive a Hewlett-Packard (HP) Technology for Teaching grant, which is designed to transform and improve learning through the innovative use of technology. The package, valued at more than $75,000, will help support a special project in the College of Engineering’s E101 course — Introduction to Engineering and Problem Solving.

Dr. Jerome P. Lavelle, assistant dean of academic affairs for the College of Engineering and the grant’s principal investigator, said the primary goal of the project is to introduce new technologies to an entry-level engineering course. Teams of students will use HP wireless handhelds (iPAQ Pocket PCs) with an eye on developing lessons or software tools that could enhance the undergraduate academic experience in engineering.
