In this centennial celebration year of the first powered flight on the sand dunes of North Carolina, Curtiss-Wright Corporation of Gastonia has established an endowment of $75,000 in the College of Engineering at NC State. The Curtiss-Wright Centennial of Flight Scholarship will provide merit-based scholarships to engineering students with an interest in a career in aviation or technology applicable to aviation. Awards are for one academic year and are renewable. The first scholar under this support will attend NC State in fall 2003.
Curtiss-Wright Corporation has a long history of involvement with aviation, dating back to the Wright brothers’ flight in 1903. Their engineering activities extend to three markets — motion control, flow control and metal treatment.
Dean Nino A. Masnari of the College of Engineering said, “This commitment by Curtiss-Wright Corporation is an investment in tomorrow’s engineers as well as a tribute to our state’s aviation heritage. By supporting NC State engineering, Curtiss-Wright is supporting the educational activities of some of our most promising young people.”
