Felder to Receive Wickenden Award

Dr. Felder

Dr. Richard M. Felder, Hoechst Celanese Professor Emeritus of Chemical Engineering at North Carolina State University, will receive the William Elgin Wickenden Award at a special awards ceremony that will be held at the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Annual Conference and Exposition on June 25, 2003, in Nashville, Tennessee. This award is given annually to the author(s) of the best paper published in the Journal of Engineering Education during the publication cycle for the previous year. Felder is lead author of "The Effects of Personality Type on Engineering Student Performance and Attitudes," which is being recognized by the award. It is the fourth time he has won this award, the previous times being 1988, 1989 and 1996.

Felder will also receive the Lifetime Achievement Award in Chemical Engineering Pedagogical Scholarship at the same ASEE conference. He has won numerous awards throughout his career, including the Warren K. Lewis Award for Chemical Engineering Education in 2002, the Chester F. Carlson Award from ASEE in 1998 and the Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1997.

Felder joined the NC State faculty in 1969. He received his bachelor’s degree from the City College of New York in 1962, his master’s from Princeton University in 1964 and his doctorate from Princeton University in 1966, all in chemical engineering.
