Wang Wins MRS Graduate Student Silver Award

Wang

Haiyan Wang, a Ph.D. student in materials science and engineering at NC State, was one of 29 graduate students from across the globe to receive the Materials Research Society (MRS) Graduate Student Award for her paper on, “Mechanical and Electrical Properties of Nanocrystalline and Epitaxial TiN Films.”

The MRS Graduate Student Awards — consisting of the Gold and Silver Awards — were established to honor and encourage graduate students whose academic and current materials research displays a high order of excellence and distinction.  Wang received her Silver Award, which included a $200 cash prize and certificate, at the MRS meeting held in Boston, Massachusetts, in fall 2001.

Wang received her B.S. degree in materials science in 1998 from Nanchang University in China and her M.S. degree in materials science in 1999 from the Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences.  She was accepted to the doctoral program in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at NC State in 2000 under the guidance of Dr. Jagdish Narayan.
