Velev Receives Camille and Henry Dreyfus New Faculty Award

Dr. Velev

Dr. Orlin D. Velev, assistant professor of chemical engineering at NC State University, has been awarded the 2001 Camille and Henry Dreyfus New Faculty Award.  Velev is one of only eleven faculty members from across the United States to receive this award.   This is the second year in a row that a chemical engineering faculty member from NC State University has won this prestigious award.

Established in 1979 by the Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation, this award strengthens the teaching and research for new faculty by providing a $40,000 unrestricted research grant.

Velev's research interests include colloid science and engineering, assembly of nano- and microstructures with photonic, optical and electrical functionality and biosensors.  He received his M.S. in chemical physics and theoretical chemistry in 1989 and his Ph.D. in physical chemistry in 1996 from the University of Sofia, Bulgaria.  He joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at NC State in August 2001.
