Lawrence Awards Ceremony on October 28
WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Monday, October 28, the seven winners of
the 2002 E.O. Lawrence Award will each receive a gold medal, a citation and
$25,000. The Department of Energy award is given in seven categories for outstanding
contributions in the field of atomic energy, broadly defined. The recipients
are:
- C. Jeffrey Brinker (Materials Research), Sandia National Laboratories and
the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM
- Claire M. Fraser (Life Sciences), The Institute for Genomic Research, Rockville,
Md.
- Bruce T. Goodwin (National Security), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory,
Livermore, Calif.
- Keith O. Hodgson (Chemistry), Stanford University and the Stanford Linear
Accelerator Center (SLAC), Stanford, Calif.
- Saul Perlmutter (Physics), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Berkeley,
Calif.
- Benjamin D. Santer (Environmental Science and Technology), Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory, Livermore, Calif.
- Paul J. Turinsky (Nuclear Technology), North Carolina State University,
Raleigh, N.C.
