Dr. Seelecke
Dr. Stefan Seelecke, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at NC State University, is the recipient of a Faculty Early Career Development (Career) Award from the National Science Foundation (NSF), effective February 15, 2002. The award is one of the highest honors given by NSF to young university faculty in science and engineering.
As part of the award, NSF will provide $375,000 in funding over the next five years. Seelecke will use the award to support his research project entitled “Advanced Control Algorithms for Active Materials Actuators Used in Nanoscale Positioning.” The project involves the development of a unified model for shape memory alloys, piezoelectric and magnetic materials, which will be used to design substantially improved control algorithms for nanomanipulation systems . Educational applications include undergraduate- and graduate-level course and research initiatives that include opportunities for students to study at one of Germany’s leading nanotechnology institutions.
Seelecke’s research interests include smart materials and structures, modeling and simulation of active materials actuators and sensors and novel real-time control techniques.
He received his master’s diploma in physical engineering science in 1989 and doctorates in physical engineering science and thermodynamics in 1995 and 1999, respectively, all from the Technical University of Berlin.
