Rizkalla Named IIFC Fellow

The International Institute for FRP in Construction (IIFC) has recognized as Fellow Dr. Sami H. Rizkalla, Distinguished Professor of Civil Engineering and Construction and Director of the Constructed Facilities Laboratory in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering at North Carolina State University. He is also the Director of the National Science Foundation Center on “Repair of Building and Bridges with Composite.”

The 12 members who have been chosen for this honor are those “senior members of the Institute who have achieved a position of high responsibility and have contributed significantly to the advancement of the field through research or practice, or both.”

The IIFC was established in 2003 to advance the understanding and the application of Fiber-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites in the civil infrastructure, in the service of the engineering profession and society.

Rizkalla is also an elected Fellow of the American Concrete Institute, the American Society of Civil Engineering, the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering and the Engineering Institute of Canada. He is the immediate past president of the Canadian Network of Center of Excellence “Intelligent Sensing for Innovative Structures” ISIS–Canada. Rizkalla received his master's and doctoral degrees from NC State in 1974 and 1976, respectively.
