Dr. David F. Ollis, Distinguished Professor of Chemical Engineering at North Carolina State University, is a recipient of the Sterling Olmsted Award. The award, sponsored by the Liberal Education Division (LED) of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), recognizes ASEE members who have made significant contributions to the teaching or administering of liberal education in engineering curricula.
Ollis was ASEE LED program chair in 1996 and LED Division chair for 1997–98.
Ollis joined the College of Engineering at NC State in 1984. His research interests include photochemical and biochemical engineering. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1963 from Caltech, his master’s in chemical engineering in 1964 form Northwestern and his doctoral degree in chemical engineering in 1969 from Stanford.
With K. Neeley (University of Virginia) and H. Luegenbiehl (Rose-Hulman), Ollis currently is editing a 400-page volume entitled Liberal Education in 21st Century Engineering: Responses to ABET/EC2000 Criteria.
