Hodgson, Lada to Receive Awards at IIE Annual Conference

Dr. Thom J. Hodgson, Distinguished University Professor of Industrial Engineering and James T. Ryan Professor of Industrial Engineering and Furniture Manufacturing at North Carolina State University, will receive the Frank and Lillian Gilbreth Industrial Engineering Award from the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) at the annual IIE conference in May.

The Gilbreth Award is the highest and most esteemed honor presented by IIE and recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves “through contributions to the welfare of mankind in the field of industrial engineering.” This is the first time in the 55-year history of IIE that any organization has had two Gilbreth Award winners in consecutive years. Dr. Salah Elmaghraby, University Professor of industrial engineering and operations research at NC State, won this award the previous year.

At the same conference, Dr. Emily K. Lada will receive the Pritsker Doctoral Dissertation Award (First Place) in recognition of her “outstanding graduate research in the field of industrial engineering.” Lada received her doctoral degree from NC State in operations research with a major in industrial engineering May 2003. The title of her dissertation is “A Wavelet-Based Procedure for Steady-State Simulation Output Analysis.” Lada is now a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Statistical and Applied Mathematical Sciences Institute (SAMSI) in the Research Triangle Park.
