Hodgson Wins Holzman Industrial Engineering Award

Dr. Hodgson

Dr. Thom J. Hodgson, the James T. Ryan Professor of Industrial Engineering and Furniture Manufacturing and Distinguished University Professor of Industrial Engineering at North Carolina State University, received the Albert G. Holzman Distinguished Educator Award from the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) at the annual IIE conference in May. This award is one of three that NC State's Department of Industrial Engineering received from IIE this year.

The Holzman award is one of the highest honors to be given by IIE and recognizes significant contributions to the profession through research, publication, extension, administration and teaching innovation in the academic environment. The contributions must be of the highest caliber and be nationally or internationally recognized. Only one award is given annually.

Hodgson joined the NC State faculty in 1983. His research interests include scheduling, production and inventory control; manufacturing systems; and applied and military operations research.

He received his B.S.E. in science engineering, his M.B.A. in quantitative methods and his Ph.D. in industrial engineering and operations research from the University of Michigan in 1961, 1965 and 1970, respectively.
