Helmlinger Named Assistant Vice Chancellor for Extension and Engagement

Teresa A. Helmlinger (BSEO '78), P.E., executive director of the Industrial Extension Service at North Carolina State University, has been named assistant vice chancellor for extension and engagement effective July 1, 2002. Her new position will be in addition to her executive director position.

Helmlinger has been at NC State since 1999. From 1979 to 1998 she worked at Progress Energy, formerly Carolina Power and Light, in Raleigh. Her final position there was director of commercial/industrial market development. She has held the offices of president and national director of the Professional Engineers of North Carolina (PENC), and she has been elected president-elect by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) for 2002-03.

She received her bachelor’s degree in engineering operations from NC State University in 1978 and her master’s of business administration from Duke University in 1985. She became a licensed professional engineer in North Carolina in 1985.
