Teresa A. Helmlinger (BSEO '78), P.E., executive director of the Industrial Extension Service at North Carolina State University, has been elected by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) to be president-elect for 2002-03. After serving as president-elect for one year, Helmlinger will be installed as NSPE president in July 2003 for a one-year term.
Helmlinger has been at NC State since 1999. From 1979 to 1998 she was director of commercial/industrial market development at Progress Energy, formerly Carolina Power and Light, in Raleigh. She has held the offices of president and national director of the Professional Engineers of North Carolina (PENC).
She received her bachelor’s degree in engineering operations from NC State University in 1978 and her master’s of business administration from Duke University in 1985. She became a licensed professional engineer in North Carolina in 1985.
NSPE is the national society of engineering professionals from all disciplines that promotes the ethical and competent practice of engineering, advocates licensure and enhances the image and well-being of its members.
