Dr. Robin P. Gardner, professor of nuclear and chemical engineering and director of the Center for Engineering Applications of Radioisotopes at North Carolina State University, has received the 2003 Glenn Murphy Award from the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE). The award, which consists of $750 and a certificate, recognizes contributions to engineering education in general and nuclear engineering in particular.
Gardner joined the NC State faculty in 1967. Since that time he has supervised 35 doctoral students and 33 master’s students. He has published 250 papers and one book. He is a Fellow in the American Nuclear Society and a member of the Fine Particle Society. Gardner received the Radiation Industry Award of the American Nuclear Society in 1984, the Alcoa Foundation Distinguished Research Award from NC State in 1986 and the R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research and Extension in 1998.
Gardner received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemical engineering from NC State in 1956 and 1958, respectively, and his doctorate in fuel technology from The Pennsylvania State University in 1961.
