Dr. C. Thomas Culbreth, Distinguished Professor of Industrial Engineering and director of the Furniture Manufacturing and Management Center, and Dr. Denis R. Cormier, associate professor of industrial engineering, have been named codirectors of the Furniture Manufacturing and Management Center effective July 1, 2002. Cormier will become director on July 1, 2003.
Culbreth has been on the faculty at NC State since 1978, and he has been the head of the furniture manufacturing and management program since 1985. His research interests include furniture manufacturing processes and system design, lean manufacturing and decision support systems for furniture manufacturing operations. Culbreth was awarded the NC State Outstanding Extension Service Award and the College of Engineering Outstanding Engineering Extension Award in 1993. He received his bachelor’s in furniture manufacturing and management in 1973, his master’s in economics in 1976 and his doctorate in industrial engineering in 1984, all from NC State.
Cormier’s research interests include rapid prototyping, new process and product development and process optimization. He received the 2001 Clifton Anderson Outstanding Industrial Engineering Faculty Award, and he was chair of the 2001 Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Chapter 133. He received his bachelor’s in systems engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, in 1989; his master’s in industrial engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1991; and his doctorate in industrial engineering from NC State University in 1995.
