Cormier Will Receive 2003 Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award

Dr. Cormier

Dr. Denis R. Cormier, associate professor of industrial engineering at N C State University, will receive the 2003 Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). SME, an international professional society that supports manufacturing education, gives this annual award to individuals 35 years of age or younger who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and achievements in manufacturing engineering.

Cormier joined the College of Engineering at NC State in 1995. His research interests include rapid prototyping and product development. His research group is currently working on a layered manufacturing process known as 3D Laser Printing (http://www.engr.ncsu.edu/news/news_articles/cormier.html).

Cormier earned his bachelor’s degree in systems engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, in 1989; his master’s in industrial engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1991; and his doctorate in industrial engineering from NC State University in 1995.

He recently was named codirector of the Furniture Manufacturing and Management Center along with Dr. C. Thomas Culbreth, Distinguished Professor of Industrial Engineering (http://www.engr.ncsu.edu/news/awards/furn_codir.html). Cormier will become director on July 1, 2003.
