| NC State Senior, Tomas Carbonell, wins Marshall Scholarship. | |
Tomas E. Carbonell — Park Scholar, Benjamin Franklin Scholar, Truman Scholar — gets to add another accolade — Marshall Scholar — to his name. The NC State University senior, majoring in chemical engineering, economics and a multidisciplinary major called ”international political economy and the environment,” recently won a Marshall Scholarship.
Up to 40 Marshall Scholarships are awarded each year to top U.S. scholars to pursue two years of study in the United Kingdom. Established by an Act of Parliament in 1953, the scholarships are aimed at potential U.S. policy makers and promote understanding between the citizens of Great Britain and the United States.
With a strong interest in connecting engineering with international policy and economics (http://www.engr.ncsu.edu/news/innerviews/carbonell.html), Carbonell intends to study for two years in the United Kingdom and most probably will pursue a master’s in economics. Afterwards, he plans to return to the United States and obtain a law degree with his recently acquired Truman Scholarship.
