High School Seniors Named NC State Caldwell Scholars

- from NC State University News Services

Some of the country's brightest high school seniors have been awarded Caldwell Scholarships from North Carolina State University for the 2002-03 academic year.

Twelve top-ranked students have been named John T. Caldwell Alumni Scholars, one of NC State's most prestigious university scholarships. The award carries an annual stipend of $5,000 for in-state students and $9,500 for out-of-state students. Including extra benefits, the value of the scholarship totals more than $20,000 for in-state students and $40,000 for out-of-state students.

The Caldwell Alumni Scholarship was established in 1975 to honor the late Dr. John Tyler Caldwell, who served as chancellor of the university from 1959 to 1975.

NC State Caldwell Scholars are chosen on the basis of outstanding academic records, active participation in school and community activities, and their potential for academic success at the university. Students who were selected will receive scholarships for their 2002-03 freshman year. The scholarships are renewable and will provide stipends throughout the students' undergraduate studies.
