Grant Honored as "Woman of Note"

Dr. Grant

Dr. Christine S. Grant, associate professor of chemical engineering at North Carolina State University, has been named one of seven 2002 Women of Note, a recognition provided by the African American Cultural Complex in Raleigh.

The center’s founders, Dr. E. B. and Mrs. Juanita B. Palmer, began the Women of Note series to honor African American women who serve as role models for society. Recipients are chosen for making “outstanding contributions toward the development of the African American community, their city, state and/or nation.”

An induction luncheon was held at the Capital City Club in Raleigh, and coverage of the award appears in the May-June 2002 issue of Ace Magazine of the Triangle.

Grant, who is the first and only African American woman faculty member in the Department of Chemical Engineering at NC State, has received numerous awards for her leadership and mentoring contributions. She received her Sc.B. in chemical engineering from Brown University in 1984 and her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in chemical engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1986 and 1989, respectively.
