Team Sciocco, made up of seniors in aerospace engineering at North Carolina State University, recently won first place in a regional undergraduate design competition sponsored by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).
The aerospace competition took place in March at the AIAA Southeast Regional Student Conference in Kill Devil Hills. The teams competed on the presentation and thoroughness of their designs, which included aircraft and space vehicles. Sciocco’s design was a 6.5-foot aircraft, capable of carrying a bulky avionics payload.
Team members included Tiffany Berry, Matthew Eldredge, Steven Floyd, Benjamin Hess, Todd Lion, Scott Rewerts, Michael Schoen and team leader Glen Spadin. The supervising faculty member was Dr. Charles Hall, associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering.
